Issi equipping students to become nurses and midwives in DR Congo

Institut Supérieur en Sciences Infirmières (ISSI)

ISSI provides vocational training in the healthcare sector, equipping students to become nurses and midwives.

ISSI is the leading institution for training nurses in DR Congo. ISSI’s programme focuses on vocational training in the healthcare sector, equipping students with much-needed skills for responding to the national health crisis. Due to the poor infrastructure and health risks such as Ebola, investment into the national healthcare sector is much needed. Students at ISSI receive training aimed at improving the overall healthcare services on a national level, with improved teaching methods and an individual support system for students through a mentoring programme.

ISSI now offers a Master’s programme in health care administration (MAPS), the first programme training Congolese nurses and midwives to raise health standards nationally. Through the programme, they are trained to take leadership roles in hospitals or in training the next generation of midwives and nurses.

  • Project focus: vocational training, mentoring
  • Year we started working with ISSI: 2015
  • Women and girls directly impacted: 577
