Kenya Appeal: rebuild young women’s lives after COVID-19

COVID-19 has closed school doors in Kenya, with devastating consequences for women and girls. This is especially the case for women and girls in rural communities like Kilifi County: without internet or a smartphone, tablet or computer, it means their education has ended.

The long-term impact of school closures are wide-ranging and even more devastating to young women living in poverty. The pandemic’s economic impact means they are choosing between food and the education that promises to lift them out of poverty.

We are working with our local partner Tewa Training Centre to change this.

Tewa helps marginalised young women in Kilifi fulfil their potential and find dignified employment. The staff at Tewa are committed to building greater resilience in their students so that they can weather future challenges and thrive in a post-COVID world.

With your support, we can reduce the effects of COVID-19 on the lives of young women in rural Kenya and rebuild their lives after the pandemic.
